San Diego Unified School District Expands Partnership with Hometown, Adopts Digital Ticketing Across All Campuses

SAN DIEGO, CA  July 15, 2026 — San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD), the second largest school district in California, has expanded its partnership with Hometown by selecting Box Office as the district’s official digital ticketing solution. This initiative will bring secure, mobile-friendly ticketing to athletic and community events across 179 campuses, serving more than 95,052 students and their families.

The district first partnered with Hometown at the end of 2024 by rolling out Schoolfundr as the SDUSD’s official online fundraising partner. Since its launch, SDUSD students and programs have launched more than 300 fundraisers, collectively raising $2.7 million and saving over $500k in platform fees leveraging Schoolfundr, Hometown’s fee-free fundraising solution.  The district athletics office will now extend Hometown’s school-first technology to its ticketing and event operations.

“Schoolfundr completely changed the way we approach fundraising- we’ve raised over $2.7 million, and because our teams keep everything but the 3% processing fee that they raise, that’s hundreds of thousands of dollars staying in our programs instead of going to unnecessary fees paid to fundraising companies,” said Scott Giusti, Director of PE, Health, and Athletics at SDUSD.

“Building on that success, Hometown Box Office brings the same level of innovation to our ticketed events. Families have a seamless digital experience, and our staff can spend more time supporting students instead of managing logistics. We’re also seeing increased ticket sales compared to previous years. My advice to other ADs: move forward and just do it,” Giusti continued.

With the launch of Box Office, SDUSD gains district-wide tools including real‑time sales reporting, automated gate control, and integrated payment processing. This solution is designed to improve transparency, reduce staffing demands, and deliver a consistent experience for schools, families, and fans.

Hometown Box Office modernizes ticketing for every SDUSD event, offering cashless, mobile-friendly sales, reserved seating, and real-time ticket scanning that gets fans to their seats faster.

“We’re proud to continue our work with San Diego Unified as they modernize operations across the district,” said Dennis Levene, CEO of Hometown. “The combination of Schoolfundr and Box Office shows what’s possible when schools have the right digital tools: more transparency, stronger engagement, and better outcomes for students and their fans.”
