UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Oct 1, 2025 — Union County Public Schools (UCPS), one of the largest districts in North Carolina, has officially named Hometown’s fundraising solution, Schoolfundr, as its exclusive fundraising partner. The decision follows a successful district-wide pilot last year, where Union County athletics and activities collectively raised more than $325,000 across 50 fundraisers using Schoolfundr’s online fundraising solution.
Through Schoolfundr, student groups can launch mobile-friendly fundraising pages in minutes. The platform offers real-time progress tracking, transparent reporting, and secure payment processing at no cost to schools. Donors are invited to leave an optional tip to support Schoolfundr’s fee-free model, allowing districts like Union County to keep 100% of the funds raised after standard credit card processing fees.
John Sullivan, UCPS District Athletic Director, played a key role in the transition. Sullivan had previously adopted Schoolfundr at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, where the tool quickly proved its impact.
“I’ve seen firsthand what Schoolfundr can do for a district,” said Sullivan. “When I arrived at Union County, I knew our student-athletes and programs could benefit from the same streamlined, transparent fundraising model. The tremendous impact of Schoolfundr across the entire state of North Carolina made it an easy decision for UCPS to move forward with Schoolfundr district-wide.”
Union County will also adopt Schoolfundr+, the district-level version of the platform. Schoolfundr+ gives administrators a single dashboard to monitor all fundraisers, approve campaigns for compliance, and generate detailed financial reports. This delivers accountability and efficiency while keeping the experience simple for schools and families.
“Our responsibility is to ensure every dollar raised supports students and programs directly,” said Shanna McLamb, UCPS Chief Financial Officer. “Schoolfundr gives us the visibility and accountability we need, while also making fundraising easier for coaches, activity leaders, students, and families.”
Schoolfundr is part of Hometown, a leading provider of school-first digital tools that help schools manage operations, host impactful in-person events, and strengthen community engagement through digital ticketing, athletic and activity websites, and online fundraising.
“Union County is a perfect example of how modern fundraising should work,” said Dennis Levene, CEO of Hometown. “With Schoolfundr, students raise more, districts gain transparency, and communities feel more connected to the programs they support. We’re excited to partner with Union County and to continue expanding access to this model across North Carolina and beyond.”
The partnership with UCPS marks another milestone in Schoolfundr’s rapid growth as districts seek more efficient, transparent, and student-friendly fundraising options.
